How To Install A Fume Hood?

The installation of a fume hood is a complex and meticulous process that requires following certain steps and precautions. The following is the general process for installing a fume hood:

First, preparatory work in advance

Determine the location: Based on the layout and process requirements of the laboratory, determine the installation location of the fume hood. Fume hoods are usually installed along walls or in corners for easy operation and ventilation.

Prepare the installation space: After determining the location, sufficient space needs to be reserved for the installation of the fume hood. The size of the space depends on the dimensions of the fume hood and the safe distance around it.

Check the environment: Ensure that the laboratory environment meets the requirements for the installation of fume hoods, including ventilation, electricity, water sources, etc.

Second, install the fume hood

Fixed fume hood: Use expansion screws or other fixing devices to fix the fume hood to the wall or the predetermined position to ensure its stability.

Connect the pipes: According to the ventilation requirements and layout of the laboratory, arrange and connect the ventilation pipes. This includes the air intake duct and the exhaust duct, and it is necessary to ensure a tight connection and no leakage.

Installation base: If the fume hood needs to be supported by a base, a suitable base should be selected for installation at this time to ensure the stability and safety of the fume hood.

Connect electrical equipment: According to the power and voltage requirements of the fume hood, connect and install the electrical equipment. Ensure that the fume hood can operate normally with power supply.

Third, install the fan and carry out commissioning

Install the fan: According to the exhaust requirements of the fume hood, select the appropriate fan for installation. The foundation of the fan should be level and solid, and the height of the foundation should be no less than 200mm. The fan and the air duct are connected by a flexible hose (made of flexible material and non-combustible), with a length of no less than 200mm. The pipe diameter should be the same as the inlet and outlet dimensions of the fan.

Installation of fan support: The steel support of the fan must be fixed on the concrete foundation, and rubber vibration damping pads should be added to reduce vibration and noise.

After the installation is completed, the fume hood needs to be debugged. This includes detecting wind speed, face wind speed and the functions of the electrical control system, etc. Ensure that the fume hood can operate normally and meet the ventilation requirements of the laboratory.

Fourth, Precautions

The ground should be flat and stable: When installing a fume hood, it is necessary to ensure that the ground is flat and stable to prevent the fume hood from shaking and being unstable.

Safety distance and traffic access: Sufficient safety distance should be maintained around the fume hood to ensure the safety of experimental operations. At the same time, the traffic passages around the fume hood also need to be kept unobstructed to facilitate the operation and movement of the laboratory personnel.

Regular maintenance and upkeep: After installation, the fume hood needs to be cleaned and maintained regularly to ensure its long-term stable operation.

Fifth, acceptance criteria

Wind speed test: When the glass operation window is opened to the normal operation position, check whether the wind speed meets the standard requirements.

Face velocity detection: Detect whether the face velocity of the fume hood is uniform and meets the requirements by means of releasing smoke, etc.

Electrical control system inspection: Check whether all functions of the electrical control system are operating normally and record relevant data.
