Maintenance methods for fume hoods

The maintenance of fume hoods is an important link to ensure the functionality and safety of their laboratories. The following are some detailed maintenance methods for fume hoods:

First, surface cleanliness

Daily cleaning: Regularly clean the cabinet body of the fume hood to keep the surface clean. It is recommended to clean at least once a week, using a soft cloth and neutral detergent to wipe the surface. Avoid using acidic, alkaline or strongly corrosive cleaners to prevent damage to the surface of the cabinet.

Special material cleaning

Epoxy countertop: It can be gently wiped with a flannel or dry cloth. For stubborn stains, it can be cleaned with warm water, acetone or a mild cleaner.

Solid core physical and chemical board countertop: It is recommended to clean it with warm water, acetone or mild cleaning agents. Avoid using cleaning agents containing abrasive components. For stubborn stains, a few drops of hypochlorous acid can be applied to the contaminated laboratory bench panel. After 1.5 minutes, rinse it off with clean water.

For the spray painting and baking parts: Wipe with fine cleaning liquid to avoid sharp objects coming into contact and leaving scratches.

For plastic and PP materials: First, spray a special detergent on the surface, then scrub it with a brush dipped in clean water, and finally wipe it clean with a semi-damp towel.

Stainless steel surface: Avoid using detergents containing bleaching agents and abrasives. The trademarks and films should be cleaned with warm water and detergent, and the adhesive components should be wiped with alcohol or organic solvents. If acid adheres, rinse immediately with clean water and then soak in ammonia water or neutral sodium bicarbonate water.

Second, replace the filter screen

Activated carbon filter screens and HEPA filters: They should be replaced on schedule to ensure the filtration effect of the fume hood. When replacing, pay attention to the installation direction and sealing performance of the filter element.

Third, clean the ventilation ducts

Regular cleaning: Use dedicated tools and cleaning agents to clean the ventilation ducts to ensure smooth air circulation.

Fourth, equipment inspection

Electrical system: Regularly inspect the circuits and control systems to ensure the normal operation of the equipment. Check whether the switches and sockets are loose or damaged and repair them in time.

Filtration system: Check whether the status of the filter element and the replacement time meet the requirements.

Lighting: Check if the lighting of the fume hood is normal and if the bulbs need to be replaced.

Other inspections: Check whether there is any air or electricity leakage in doors, Windows, gaps, etc., and make timely adjustments and repairs. Meanwhile, regularly check the operation of the fan to ensure its normal operation.

Fifth, Precautions for use

Laboratory environment: Pay attention to the environmental parameters of the laboratory, such as temperature, humidity, air quality, etc., and maintain appropriate experimental conditions.

Personal protection: When using a fume hood, wear gloves, masks, goggles and other personal protective measures to ensure the safety of the experiment.

Reasonable use: Avoid continuous use of fume hoods for long periods. Generally, each use should not exceed 4 hours. At the same time, select the appropriate wind speed according to the nature of the experimental items and the operational requirements.

Sixth, maintenance records

Daily record: Record the cleaning time, usage status, etc. every day.

Regular inspection records: Record the results of each inspection, including the inspection conditions of the electrical system, filtration system, lighting, etc.

Maintenance record: Record the maintenance situation of the fume hood, including the maintenance time, maintenance content, maintenance personnel, etc.

Through the above maintenance methods, the long-term stable operation of the fume hood can be ensured, and the safety and work efficiency of the laboratory can be improved.
